Are you a mother or a father? Statistics indicate that food allergies have become more common among children in the United States. Four out of every one hundred children in the United States have a food allergy. http://www.cdc.gov/nchs/data/databriefs/db10.htm Bike for Sale by regexman

In your family with a food-allergic child, both parents, one parent or neither parent may have a food allergy. In this on-line community, a “single with food allergies” includes a single parent without a food allergy who is raising a child with a food allergy.

As a single parent of a child with a food allergy, you juggle your job, household chores, homework assistance and the complexities of food shopping, among other activities. These put a lot of demands on your time!

Fortunately, the recent proliferation of allergy-friendly foods on store shelves and President Obama’s food labeling requirements make food shopping easier. We, parents of children with food allergies, need to provide a lot of healthy, varied nutritional choices for our children. Every child with food allergies should get safe meals and snacks at home.

Extra challenges arise however, for a single parent of children with differing food allergies.  Color coding food containers may help. Also, emphasizing the meats, fruits, vegetables and other foods that the whole family can enjoy safely together is important! For example, my son’s love of salmon, artic char, sardines, trout, haddock, cod and other finned fish reduces the importance of his inability to eat shellfish. How do you handle this?
