Are you a single parent who wants to date again? Are you a single parent who has started to date again? Dating should be great fun, but those who are new to dating need to remember to move slowly. Don’t share too much information about your children. If the relationship doesn’t grow, you will be happy that you didn’t share a lot of details. If the relationship does grow, give to your date the pleasure of discovering your child’s personality.
Include honesty as an important part of your growing relationship. Why not mention your child from the outset? If a date has to be rescheduled, because of your child’s illness or because your childcare cancels, say that, as you apologize.
As a parent who works, shops, helps with homework and raises a child, you may have limited dating opportunities. Don’t let this discourage you. Cherish every date. When you go out on a date, don’t worry about what the sitter is doing. Let your date see you as a potential best friend, partner and lover, not solely as a parent.
Trust between two people grows slowly. Recognize common bonds. Communicate frequently.
